Poole Atlantic lifeboat launched at 11.45 am today (Thursday December 29) to a report of a yacht aground near Green Island in Poole Harbour.
Poole lifeboat volunteers were tasked by Solent Coastguard to assist a 26ft yacht. The vessel was at South Deep, off Cleaval Point South of Green Island.
The vessel with four people on-board was fast aground. A tow was attempted but as it was a twin keel vessel the keels were acting like an anchor, holding it fast, so the crew laid out the yachts anchor and dug it into the mud to make the vessel secure. When the tide turned they then took the crew back to their yacht club.
As high water is due at 9:00pm it is hoped that the vessel will re-float then or the following high tide at 10:00 am.
The Poole lifeboat returned back to station after refuelling it was ready for service by 2:00pm
