Both boats launched 26 January, 2017.

Poole Lifeboats were launched today to a report of a person possibly in the water near to the Twin Sail Bridge, a mobility scooter was found abandoned close to the edge.

Both lifeboats, the Atlantic and D Class were tasked at 14.15 (Thursday January 26th) to search for a possible casualty in the water.

As the tide was going out the search began, from the Twin Sail Bridge down tide  through the channel to the Port of Poole Marina and Poole Quay Boat Haven, the lifeboats were working at opposite ends of the search area.

The Lifeboat volunteers were working alongside other agencies, helicopter 106, and the Police rib plus supported by Poole Coastguard and Police on the shore.

 The search continued from Stakes buoy at the entrance of the harbour, through North, Middle and Wych channel, then an extensive search continued on the North side of the harbour, conditions were South Easterly, force 5.

After an all-encompassing search nothing untoward was found, so Solent Coastguard stood the lifeboats down.

Both lifeboats returned back to station and were refuelled and ready for service by 17.30 The Police will continue with their investigations

 Volunteer Helmsman Ed Davies said:

‘We conducted a thorough search of the area taking into consideration the tides. As we still don’t know the circumstances around the mobility scooter, we hope that the owner is found safe and well’.
