Poole lifeboat ,Atlantic 85 launched at 6:40 this morning ( Friday April 14) after a 38ft yacht put out a ’Pan Pan’ reporting that the vessel was fast aground
Three calls of pan-pan are used in radio communications to signify that there is an urgency on board a boat, but that, for the time being at least, there is no immediate danger to anyone’s life or to the vessel itself.
The vessel was aground just outside Parkstone Marina with two people on-board.
The lifeboat volunteers arrived on scene and checked that the two occupants were okay and assessed the situation. As it was now low water in Poole Harbour and that their position would not be getting any worse the lifeboat crew set about laying the yachts anchor and advised the casualty to wait for the incoming tide, with high tide due at 11.50, Solent Coastguard would also monitor their position.
Happy that the yacht was secure and safe the lifeboat returned back to station and was ready for service at 7.45
