Poole Lifeboat launched at 17:15 (Sunday July 30th) to a report that a jet ski was in difficulty in Poole Harbour.
The first informant had been travelling on the Chain Ferry when they raised the alarm, the lifeboat crew were soon on scene and they began to search the area from Wills Cut up through Brownsea Island to Furzey island and around to Lovell’s Lake,
Nothing untoward was found, then the crew spotted a jet ski at the Shell bay slipway and ascertained that this was the jet ski that had been reported as being in difficulty, the jet ski had encountered a problem with its impeller but had made it safely ashore,
As all was okay the crew returned back to station and were ready for service by 18:00.
Conditions out in the harbour were fresh with South westerly winds force 5
Volunteer helmsman Dave Riley said:
‘We searched the area thoroughly and found nothing untoward, although a false alarm, it was made with good intent and we would always encourage the public to err on the side of caution by reporting anything which they believe to be evidence of someone at risk, the important thing is that the people were safe’.
