Launching over 100 times last year on service calls to assist those in need and probably the same amount for training our boats always need to be ready to go at a moments notice.
Luckily we have two volunteer mechanics and here you can see them giving the boats some TLC. All kit is removed, washed and re-stowed. During the year they carry out weekly, fortnightly and six-monthly checks to ensure everything is working properly.
Atlantic mechanic Joe Manning said ‘the boats need to be ready to go 24/7. From doing basic repairs and fault finding to re ordering stock such as first aid equipment it’s a busy role but essential to saving lives at sea.’
Joe added ‘with the new boathouse almost complete this will certainly make the role easier in the winter months, with the boats under cover and a workshop close by this will really be beneficial.’
