At Poole we’ve successfully gained a newly qualified helm.
Volunteer Steve Porter has passed his final helm assessments on the D class.
Being a helm is no easy job. Steve started working on his helm development plan 18 months ago and has been assessed on a number of units such as manage search and rescue, manage launch and recovery, manage towing to name a few plus a final command passout which pulled all Steve’s training together in one scenario.
On station Steve joins 8 other helms which means he’ll now have the responsibility of taking the D class to sea, choosing which crew to take and making decisions whilst at sea.
Steve said, ‘I’ve had great support during my helm training from crew mates and station management, I’m really pleased all the training and hard work has paid off.’
Well done Steve!
